The PlayStation 4 is very close to release now. As a direct result, Sony is beginning its marketing blitz in preparation for launch day. This also includes getting everything ready for when the console finally hits consumers' hands.
This is why the Vita is getting firmware version 3.00. The main purpose of this update is to give the Vita all the functionality it needs to interface with the PS4. With the new update, an app called “PS4 Link” will be installed on the Vita. This new app enables Remote Play, allowing the Vita to stream games from the PS4. The other feature of PS Link is Second Screen, which does what you'd think it does.
Other notable updates include an adjustment to the “Friends” app, making friend management easier on the Vita. The “Party” app now has the capability to speak to friends playing on the PS4. PS3 users will appreciate the additions to the “Content Manager” app, which let you use Wi-Fi to download content to your Vita from the PS3. The new 3.00 firmware allows Vita users to automatically download future updates without prompting for it. Parental Controls have also been updated to allow for a better UI and further restrictions for parents to better control what their children play.
